RURAL HEALTH CARE WORKERS’ NEWSLETTER

Twice a year NSI produces a newsletter that is distributed to 5000 health workers and institutions in the 75 districts of Nepal.

Isolation is one of the main barriers to effective health care in rural areas.  NSI started with an annual conference to facilitate networking among those working in remote institutions.  While effective, the conference only reaches 120 workers each year.  Therefore, at the suggestion of conference participants, NSI developed a newsletter around the same themes of the conference: networking, continuing medical education, and government linkage.

While the newsletter was originally bilingual, NSI lengthened the publication and now prints it only in Nepali.  The newsletter seeks ‘success stories’ – models of overcoming challenge which can be applied by others; examples that inspire.  As with most of NSI’s work, the newsletter seeks to build on that which is already good.
