Our Mission:
To train and support skilled, compassionate health care workers for rural Nepal.
The Problem: Lack of access to health care in rural areas of Nepal.

Joining others in addressing the problem
In spite of significant advances in health care for Kathmandu, and rapid expansion of traditional medical education, the problem of poor access to health care continues to plague Nepal. NSI has worked with a coalition of the Nepal government, INGOs, and international consultants to lay the ground work for a sustainable plan to help address the problem. This plan is based on extensive experience in Nepal, published evidence worldwide, and long discussion.

Principles for Change
1. There is no single solution. The problem calls for a broad, integrated approach.
2. Train levels of health care workers who are least likely to migrate. "Provide enough training, but not too much."
3. Train in settings that are similar to the target rural work place.
4. Recruit students from rural areas.
5. Provide post-training support in the field: training alone is not enough.
6. Transform existing clinical institutions into high quality training centers.
