Rural Healthcare Workers' Newsletter
NSI produces a newsletter twice in a year that is distributed to more than 6000 health workers and institutions in the 75 districts of Nepal.
Isolation is one of the main barriers to effective health care in rural areas. NSI started with an annual conference to facilitate networking among those working in remote institutions. While effective, the conference only reaches 100 to 120 workers each year. Therefore, at the suggestion of conference participants, NSI developed a newsletter around the same themes of the conference: networking, continuing medical education, and government linkage.
While the newsletter was originally bilingual, NSI lengthened the publication and now prints it only in Nepali. The newsletter seeks ‘success stories’ – models of overcoming challenge which can be applied by others; examples that inspire, a biography which highlights the devotion and efforts made by healthcare worker to improve the healthcare services in the community, CME that helps to update the knowledge of healthcare workers and interview section where an important issues are addressed by distinguished government officials. As with most of NSI’s work, the newsletter seeks to build on that which is already good.
